Audible got Australia to solve a puzzle starring Jennifer Coolidge

Audible Australia put Jennifer Coolidge in public places looking completely lost — headphones on, pushing a bright orange shopping trolley — and let the internet work out why. It did, fast, and the stunt earned attention no media buy would have bought.

The mechanic is simple: make something strange enough that people photograph it, and specific enough that solving the puzzle means naming the brand.

The carousel, in text

1. This, my friends, is how you get your money’s worth from a celebrity.

2. Jennifer Coolidge was spotted in random spots around Australia looking completely lost. Headphones on. Pushing an orange trolley.

3. Is she shopping? Is she shooting a film? Is this an ad? Why is there so much orange? What is she listening to?

4. Did you figure it out? The internet did, very quickly. This was a hilarious stunt by Audible. The comments filled up fast: “An ad for Audible.” “Best ad ever, nailed it.” “This might just be the most perfectly chaotic ad I’ve ever seen.”

5. The reason this got Australia’s attention is that it was so weird and bizarre. Sort of like Jennifer herself.

6. The idea that she’s lost while listening to an audiobook is such an exaggeration. But if anyone can sell over-the-top, it’s this woman.

7. Side note and off topic: who recalls Jennifer Coolidge making a hilarious cameo in FRIENDS?
