Marketing has evolved. There are new shiny formats and tools every other week. Fancier things to do, fancier places to be. In all that noise, the basics get buried.
But every once in a while, a brand does OOH so good, it reminds us why it’s always been special!
Here’s one such billboard, by BPL.
It’s up in Kolkata, and isn’t it an absolute beauty?
At first glance, it’s a visual that captures the Pujo feels perfectly: a dancer performing the traditional Dhunuchi Naach. Anyone who has spent a Pujo in Kolkata would recognise that moment instantly.
But then you notice the clever bit.
She’s performing inside what appears to be a screen! The scene is framed to look like it’s playing on a screen, and the screen in question is BPL’s Mini LED TV.
That’s when it clicks: it’s a creative product demo!
The idea is to show just how immersive and lifelike the display can be, and what better way to do that on a billboard? The Dhunuchi smoke effect is the cherry on top, adding a sensory element that feels rooted in Pujo traditions and reinforces the depth of the display.
Aaand there was still more! BPL’s brand promise is “Beyond The Screen” and that’s legit what the visual does.
We have to give BPL their flowers for this one! They chose a visual that does four things at once: it taps into local culture, shows off the product’s immersive quality, fulfills the brand promise, and is a head-turner.
Once again, a reminder that OOH can do so much more than just occupy space!
