Reese Witherspoon’s Book Club Is Actually A Movie Pipeline

Reese Witherspoon recommends one book a month and invites authors to pitch her. A pick means enormous free visibility and usually a bestseller, so authors are desperate to get chosen — and what she gets in return is the right to turn those books into movies later.

Which means every recommendation is pre-marketing for a film that hasn’t gone into production yet. When it finally comes out, the author gets another spike in book sales and Reese gets the box office.
