We’ve seen surgical masks, DIY masks, fashionable cloth masks, but a smart mask that makes one go ‘Oh my gosh!’?
Will.i.am has dropped the ‘Xupermask’ – a high-tech mask with never before seen features that is upping the mask game.
The former Black Eyed Peas member has partnered with Honeywell, a technology company based in the US which has manufactured millions of N95 masks over the last year.
Equipped with dual-speed fans, noise-canceling headphones, an integrated microphone, LED lights, and a Honeywell HEPA filtration system, the tech-forward mask can function for up to 7 hours and can be charged with a USB Type-C cable.
The mask is made of silicon and athletic mesh fabric on the sides, designed by Hollywood costume designer Jose Fernandez, who has previously worked on films such as Black Panther and The Avengers, and created the SpaceX suits for Elon Musk.
The artist will be launching the Xupermask in ‘drops’, and hopes it will be popular among hypebeasts and fashion enthusiasts.
“We are living in sci-fi times. It’s straight out of a friggin’ movie. But we are wearing masks from yesterday’s movie. So I wanted to make a mask to fit the era that we’re in,” he told The New York Times.
