Why Apple skipped the base iPhone this year

Every September, Apple launches a base iPhone, a pro and a pro max. This year, the base model simply didn’t show up.

Missing from the line-up, it does more work for Apple’s pricing than it ever did on stage.

1. We identified something really interesting about Apple yesterday and we have to share it with you.

2. Every year in September, Apple drops a base iPhone model, a pro model and a pro max model.

3. But yesterday, they skipped the base model. Why?

4. Because Apple wants to increase their average selling price. So not only have they increased the prices of their pro and pro max models, the new foldable phone is also their most expensive phone yet.

5. But here’s the problem. Next to the base model, these phones look even more expensive.

6. The consumer thinks: maybe I will just buy the cheaper base model.

7. The average selling price keeps reducing as a result. So Apple removed it from their line-up altogether.

8. And now in front of the much more expensive Duo, the pro and pro max start looking like the cheaper variants.

9. But here’s the clever part. Apple WILL introduce the base model at a later date. And when they do, they get a whole new wave of excitement and marketing.

10. They will leverage today’s excitement to sell the expensive phones. And create a renewed interest by announcing the cheaper models at a later date.
