Reliance has a new documentary out: Parvah Hai Toh Parivar Hai. It’s a very heartfelt take on 50 years of their story, told in one go.
Because we did the very important job of watching the whole thing, we’ve got four reasons why you should, too!
Reason #1: It’s a deeply personal look at a big conglomerate
A company with such a scroll of history has no shortage of accolades, moments and milestones.
Reliance could’ve just made a big ol’ highlight reel and called it a day. And it probably would’ve worked just enough – it’s a massive conglomerate, after all.
Instead, Reliance zigged where everyone else zags! Something you don’t often see from companies of this scale.
They brought the actual family into the documentary – the Ambanis, yes, but also the much bigger Reliance family around them.
Which brings us to…
Reason #2: It makes a massive business feel small and accessible (in a good way!)
This, more than anything else, is why the documentary actually works.
The focus on people brings something a corporate retrospective cannot: an emotional connect.
It takes something audiences see from 30,000 feet and brings it right down to people-level! Simply put: the documentary humanizes the massive Reliance phenomenon.
People can’t feel a number, but they can feel a story. That’s the whole game.
Speaking of stories…
Reason #3: It gives some really good stories their moment
Case in point: Jyothi Yarraji! Two-time Asian champ, national record holder, first Indian woman to compete in the 100m hurdles at the Olympics.
Impressive stats aside, what actually gets you is the backstory: how she was first discovered and how Reliance backed her at a point when her family didn’t.
Now imagine that story playing out across countless people you may not have heard of and you get a sense of what Reliance’s philanthropy actually looks like: early and tangible.
Reason #4: It manages to spotlight what Reliance does, but with a twist
Think about it: a documentary covering every arm of a conglomerate this size could easily turn into a checklist. Telecom, retail, energy, healthcare, sports – tick, tick, tick.
But that’s not what happens here because each business gets its moment through a story.
By the time you realize you’ve basically sat through a tour of everything Reliance does, you’re not thinking about it as marketing. You’re thinking about the people.
And if you’re a sucker for good storytelling, well, that’s a pretty great reason to watch this!
Bonus: it puts some very real faces to what inclusivity means at Reliance and that makes for a moving watch.
If any of these reasons clicked with you, you know what to do! Watch the full documentary here.
