Balenciaga Reworks The Iconic GAP Logo, Makes It GAY To Celebrate Pride

Gap’s classic hoodies, t-shirts, and sweatshirts with the capital ‘GAP’ logo across the front have served as wardrobe staples for many.

Balenciaga, the luxury fashion label, has put a spin on the popular icon and made it ‘GAY’ to celebrate queer individuals.

What once stood as a middle-school taunt – many kids were bullied for wearing Gap hoodies as they claimed it stood for ‘Gay And Proud’ (the name isn’t actually an acronym though) has now become so cool that a brand as big as Balenciaga is embracing it.

The ‘GAY’ branded clothes were first seen in Balenciaga’s Pre-Fall 2021 collection, but are being released early in a capsule collection in honour of Pride Month. Instead of the usual runway images, the clothes were shot at iconic places around the world, displaying a sense of global solidarity for the Pride movement.

Balenciaga will be donating 15% of the proceeds from the capsule collection to the Trevor Project, which provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention services for LGBTQ+ individuals. Considering the retail price of Balenciaga’s items, we’re sure it’ll make a sizeable impact for the organisation.
