Yatra.com had a trick up their sleeves this April Fool’s Day. In a video the brand announced the launch of a revolutionary new product called the Yatra Master Key Card, which allowed you to simply walk in to any hotel, and use the key card to walk into a room reserved, especially for you.
And we were all like whaaa!
You know what, you need to watch the video to fully understand the potential that this keycard supposedly unlocked for all of us.
No seriously, watch it!
It’s almost like a dream that you so want to believe is true. The card sounded like the next big thing in the travel industry, and we were ready to feel like royalty, and that is when the brand dropped the bomb and we realised..
Oh wait, it’s April Fool’s Day!
Once you go the offers page as directed in the video, the brand reveals that this was all a prank!
Why Yatra Whyyy!
But this wasn’t the end of it. The customers were informed that as part of the prank, they receive a completely legit 50% discount voucher which they could use to book hotels. Yatra’s elaborate prank places them as a quirky brand which doesn’t shy away from going the extra mile to bring a little bit of fun to the lives of their customers.
From a marketing point of view, this prank further establishes Yatra as a relatable brand to the Indian consumer and the discount offered at the end of the reveal will ensure the customers have a smile on their faces at the end of it.
