Shein Has Finally Relaunched In India, But Its Once Loyal Consumers Are Not Impressed

In June 2020, a slew of popular apps such as TikTok, CamScanner, WeChat, ShareIt, and more were banned by the Indian government due to political tensions between India and China.

Among these apps was Shein, an e-commerce platform highly popular among the Indian masses for its inexpensive and trendy clothing. The news of the ban left many of its customers ‘heartbroken’, who got to try out new styles at ridiculously low prices.

However, the ultra fast fashion giant recently made its comeback in India. But instead of returning as an independent ecommerce platform, Shein returned as a seller on Amazon during its two-day Prime Day shopping event.

After more than a year of being banned, consumers were thrilled to learn that their favourite shopping destination was finally coming back. However, following the much-awaited launch, many of its old customers were disappointed given the higher pricing and limited stock.

The Delhi High Court had issued a notice to the government seeking a ban on the sale of Shein products through Amazon. Luckily for the e-tailer, the bench refused to put an interim stay and have slated the matter for next month.

In other news, another app that got Indians hooked before its ban, TikTok, also might be making a comeback. Its parent company, ByteDance, has reportedly filed a trademark application for the name ‘TickTock’ with the Controller General of Patents Design and Trademarks.
